How to Chop Raisins, Cherries, or Other Fruits

Many recipes for baked goods call for chopped, diced, or cut up raisins. You've probably thought "Ugh...what a messy job!" It doesn't have to be all the messy or sticky...here's a tip!

Put 2 tablespoons of flour in a plastic bag. Put in the raisins. Leave plenty of air in the bag, and then twist closed or zip to seal. Shake for about 30 seconds, or until the raisins are evenly coated with flour.

Pour floured raisins out onto a floured surface (dinner plate or cutting board). You can either "Bonzai Chop" like you were a chef at Benihana's, or you can "line up" the raisins and chop with a sharp mince.

If the recipe calls for minced raisins, after you chop the raisins in half, put back into the plastic bag with a little more flour, shake, and then chop again.

This method is good for other candied fruits. It can be used for chopping up cherries (although it is a little messier).
